Counsellor and Therapist for the Sydney Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community
I am a qualified clinical counsellor, psychotherapist and Gestalt therapist who has worked extensively as an individual and couple counsellor and have encountered a wide range of issues. I have a passion for helping lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals and gay couples live healthy, vibrant and rich lives.
I have an interest in sexuality and issues that are pertinent and relevant to LGBT people. I have specialised in couples counselling and same-sex marriage therapy for the last 14 years.
In my couples work, I help LGBT couples create relationships that are respectful, loving and meaningful. The focus of my work with couples is looking at how they deal with difference and restoring connection and intimacy in your relationship.
I have been serving the Sydney LGBT community as a therapist for the last 14 years. As a gay man, I intimately understand many of the challenges and issues that LGBT people face. What this means is when you work with me, I can appreciate and connect with the very matters that you are grappling with in your life.
I work in private practice in the Woolloomooloo and Newtown. I am a former faculty member of Jansen Newman Institute of Counselling and Applied Psychotherapy, where I facilitated group therapy for counselling and psychotherapy students and trained them in therapeutic skills.
My philosophy
I was a professional classical musician for over 15 years and played with world-class orchestra in Australia and overseas. As a performer, I was often dealing with performance anxiety and nervousness, and this led me to develop an interest in the mind and the psychology of performance.
Being a musician, I was drawn to the creative and experiential in my therapeutic work. This fits well with the Gestalt Therapy framework that I use, which views the whole of you in the context of your life situation, family, community and culture.
The cornerstone of my practice is valuing and raising awareness of ‘what is’; experimenting with new ways of understanding your world and relationships; increasing self-support and trusting your inner authority; developing healthy boundaries and supporting creative choices and responsibility in your movement towards health.
Professional memberships
I am a member of Gestalt Australia & New Zealand (GANZ), a clinical member of the Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia (PACFA) Reg. No. 21029. I adhere to their codes of practice and ethics in my work.
I participate in regular clinical supervision and professional development to enhance my work and ensure my clients get the best possible help.
